Anhar ali

Anhar was the first resident from Gateway to successfully get a job through the STEP programme. He started his full-time job as a Business Development Manager with Euro Car Parts in December 2013.

We spoke to Anhar about his experience on the STEP programme.

Anhar, firstly congratulations on your job, how did the STEP programme support your development?

Thank you. The support has really opened my eyes. Completing the course has helped me prepare myself for new challenges in the job market.

What did you enjoy most about STEP?

The programme really helped me to see things differently. It helped me in terms of preparing for the employment market, CV writing and interview techniques.

What would you say to anyone looking for a job but might be nervous about joining STEP?

I would say they must join and learn because the job market has changed a lot. Especially for those who come from an ethnic minority background or if you are 40 plus. It’s not what you know, employers have a fixed mind set and they do not want to just view your overall experience. They are more interested in you fitting the way they think.
