Gateway Housing Association’s short film, ‘East End The Place We Call Home’, will be screened at the East End Film Festival 2017. It will be aired alongside other short films exploring lives and cultural change in the East End.
The film tells the story of the East End today through the eyes of eight Gateway residents, directed by Paul Crawley. It formed part of an exhibition to commemorate the 90th Anniversary of Gateway Housing Association.
The inspiration for the film’s narrative was the notion of ‘Heimat’ (a German word with no direct English translation), meaning a deep and positive inner sense of being at home and belonging. This knowing, at the deepest level, that you belong is an essential element to community, as much a part of the area as the roads, houses and businesses.
We want to say a huge thank you to all our residents who took part in the film, and Paul Crawley our director. We’re very proud to have been selected!
The screening is free and will take place on Saturday 3rd June from 11.30 in Old Spitalfields Market, 16 Horner Square, London E1 6EW.
