Digital project boosts social inclusion for seniors

We’re rolling out Wi-Fi and shared computers to all our Sheltered schemes, as part of our Digital Inclusion programme.

Gateway is the largest provider of sheltered housing for older people in Tower Hamlets.

Lynne Lee, from our IT department, is working with scheme co-ordinators, Homeworks and other colleagues to give our older residents better access to the internet.

Having access to the internet is seen as vital for seniors to remain socially included. It is part of our overall commitment to providing top-quality Sheltered housing.

We will soon have Wi-Fi at all out Sheltered schemes, as well as the options for residents to borrow an iPad and a laptop.

Five schemes now have Wi-Fi access along side a fixed PC and loanable hardware, with remaining schemes finished by January.

All schemes will have a fixed PC which is available to them 24/7 in their communal area.
