Couples can save up to £252 a year on their tax bill

The Marriage Allowance tax benefit allows some couples to save up to £252 a year on their tax bill. You must be married or in a civil partnership to qualify for this allowance.

One partner must not pay any Income Tax because their income is below the Tax-free Personal Allowance (typically £12,570). The other partner must pay Income Tax at the basic rate.
