Who we are
Gateway Housing Association, originally known as Bethnal Green Housing Association, began its journey in 1926. The first development, Queen Margaret Flats, opened in 1929 and is still owned and managed by Gateway today.
Registered as a charity in 1961 and amalgamated in 1993 with Victoria Park Housing Association. After a series of mergers changed name to Gateway Homes in 2008.
Gateway was formed through the merger of various groups and organizations, with a strong commitment to providing high-quality homes and strong community support.
Over the years, Gateway Housing has grown and evolved, managing over 3,000 homes, primarily in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
The Cockney sparrow, a symbol of the East London community, represents our organization's values of community, resilience and belonging. We continue to invest in new homes, including shared ownership and affordable housing, and we are the largest provider of sheltered housing in the borough.
Our organization's history reflects the dedication to supporting the communities we serve and our commitment to building great homes for generations to come.
