Sheltered housing

Sheltered housing is designed especially for people who are over 60 years of age. We have 16 sheltered housing schemes, including two schemes which are for people aged 55 or over. Sheltered housing, also known as Retirement Living, offers independence and community with added support if needed.

Sheltered housing helps to remove the fear of isolation and loneliness that many people experience as they become older. Knowing that other people live in the same building in similar circumstances may help to relieve these fears.

Each scheme is made up of self-contained flats which have their own front door. A scheme manager will be on duty from 9am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday, to provide any extra support you may need.

Gateway is the largest provider of Older Person’s Sheltered Housing in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

We own and manage 16 sheltered schemes throughout the borough providing housing and support for older people who want to live in a safe and secure community where support from one of our highly trained friendly staff is on hand in an emergency or for everyday events.

Our schemes have from 16 to 38 flats. Each flat is connected to an alarm service, which links to the scheme manager during the day and to a 24-hour call service when the scheme manager is off duty.

Each scheme has a communal lounge where residents can socialise. These are often hubs for the varied social events residents are encouraged to participate in. The schemes also have a shared laundry and most have a garden for you to enjoy.
