Take no chances – Gas Safety Week 2026
When it comes to gas safety, it's always better to be safe than sorry. This week is Gas Safety Week 2026, a national campaign to help people stay safe at home. This year's message is simple: Take No Chances. When it comes to gas safety, it is important to act quickly if something doesn't seem right.
Gas appliances such as boilers, cookers and fires should always be checked and maintained properly. If these appliances aren’t working, they can be dangerous and may cause carbon monoxide, a poisonous gas that you cannot see, smell or taste.
Here’s a reminder of some simple gas safety tips:
- Make sure your annual gas safety check is carried out. When you get your appointment from Gateway, please let us know if you can keep it.
- Test your carbon monoxide alarm regularly.
- Look out for warning signs such as yellow or orange flames, black marks around appliances, or unusual noises.
- A Gas Safe Register engineer will bring ID to carry out gas work in your home. Please let them in.
- Know the signs of carbon monoxide poisoning, including headaches, dizziness, sickness and breathlessness.
For leaseholders:
If you own your home and are responsible for your gas appliances, make sure they are serviced regularly by a qualified Gas Safe Register engineer.
