Celebrating a new community at Bow Green
Residents at Bow Green recently came together to celebrate their new homes, meet their neighbours and unveil a mural inspired by the history and people of the local area.
The community celebration brought residents, families and Gateway colleagues together for food, activities and to celebrate a new mural created with input from residents living at Bow Green.
The mural tells the story of area, from its roots as the former Bow Common Gasworks to the growing community that calls the development home today. Residents helped shape the design by sharing local landmarks, memories and ideas about what makes East London special.
Kate Franklin, Chief Executive of Gateway Housing Association, said:
"A home is about much more than the building you live in. It's about feeling connected to the people around you and being part of a community.
It has been wonderful to see residents helping shape the mural and coming together to celebrate everything that makes Bow Green special."
One resident described their experience of living at Bow Green by saying: "Gateway is community."
They explained how supported, informed and included they feel, and how different their experience has been compared to previous housing providers.
Alongside the seeing the mural, residents enjoyed children's activities, refreshments and opportunities to get to know their neighbours and Gateway colleagues.
The event formed part of Gateway's centenary celebrations, marking 100 years of providing homes and supporting communities across East London.
