Jean's story
Jean has lived in five homes in the same block in the Isle of Dogs since 1938. We asked her about her life in her Gateway home:
"My Nan lived here when the Queen Mother came to open the development. Then, everyone knew everyone. Over the years, my Nan, Mum and brother all lived here. And this is where I raised my three children.
"I've never had any problems with Gateway. When I ring up, I know someone will come down and get the job done.
"I've only ever lived away for five years. And when a flat became available, my Mum let me know and I was able to move back.
"My first husband was the caretaker. When he passed away, I took over the job in the early 1970s while I was living on the estate. My second husband took over the job after me and was the caretaker for over 15 years.
"I enjoy when Gateway put on events so I can see the team. I'm joining in on a few other projects with Gateway in the community as well. It will be nice to meet my neighbours and others in the area."
