K&T Heating Tips

As the weather changes and the nights become colder - it’s safe to say that we are preparing for a cold winter! Are you winter-ready?

Our gas and heating partners – K&T heating, have provided some top tips on how to maintain your boilers and advice on how to get winter ready.

Top Tips:

Tip 1: Check the thermostats on your boiler

A faulty thermostat can cause your room to be too hot or too cold. It will not send a signal to the valve that allows the radiators to heat up. Alternatively, a thermostat that cannot read the room temperature could allow your home to get hotter and hotter. This can be very frustrating as you may only be able to have your home extremely warm or very cold. Remember some thermostats are battery-operated if there is a digital screen with no display please check the batteries.

Tip 2: Always Check your boiler in autumn

British households typically switch their central heating on in October. You may not realise that a fault has developed in your boiler until you turn it on just before winter, and by this point, it may be too late for you to receive a prompt repair.

Therefore, we advise you to check that your boiler works while the weather is still relatively mild. You don’t need to use it for long –just turn it on for long enough for your radiators to heat up.

Tip 3: Gas and electric meter credit

It is vital for your electric meter to be topped up and have enough credit for any heating system to work. If you have a gas central heating system the same applies to your gas prepayment meter, please make sure there is a digital display - it reads ‘ON’. A common fault is not topping the meter up correctly and this will stop the meter from allowing gas to pass through
