The passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

Following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Gateway Housing Association expresses its sincere condolences to the Royal family and honors Queen Elizabeth’s duty and service to the nation and Commonwealth over her 70-year reign.

Queen Elizabeth dedicated her life to duty serving the people of the UK and 56 Commonwealth countries. She acted as a grandmother who offered a beacon of stability and hope to millions witnessing much turbulence and social change. The announcement of her death marks the start of one month of national mourning to honor the memory of a monarch personally committed to her people that few can remember life without.

Gateway welcomes staff and residents to commemorate the Queen’s life over the coming 10 days as she lays in state at Westminster Hall. Her funeral at Westminster Abbey will be followed by a spectacular ceremonial procession that takes her to rest at St George's Chapel, Windsor. Union flags will be lowered, and church services held across all denominations as communities are called to unite to commemorate her life.

Queen Elizabeth II goes down in history as one of the nation's greatest sovereigns, having steered the country through the Cold War, counselled 15 prime ministers and grown the Commonwealth throughout her reign. Her death marks a significant period of history, which saw her rally the nation during the coronavirus pandemic, whereon she returned to public life after the death of her beloved husband, Prince Philip to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee year.

Rest in Peace your Majesty
