Important Update: Migration to Universal Credit

As part of a nationwide transition, everyone receiving certain benefits will be migrated to Universal Credit (UC).
If you receive certain benefits, including Housing Benefit, Council Tax Support, Tax Credits, and more, read the following information carefully to understand how this may impact you and what steps you need to take.
What is Universal Credit?
Universal Credit is a single monthly payment designed to help with your living costs. It aims to support those who are working but on a low income, as well as those seeking employment. UC may also provide additional financial support for childcare and housing costs.
Who Will Be Affected?
Residents currently receiving any of the following benefits may be required to switch to Universal Credit:
- Housing Benefit
- Employment and Support Allowance
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Child Tax Credits
- Working Tax Credits
- Income Support
What Do You Need to Do?
If you are receiving any of these benefits, you will receive a “managed migration notice” from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP). This notice will instruct you to apply for Universal Credit within three months. Failure to do so may result in a loss of benefits.
How to Apply?
The migration notice will include a link to an online portal where you can complete your application. If you do not already have an online account, you will need to set one up as part of the process.
Where Can You Get Help?
If you need assistance with your application, support is available from the Citizens Advice Bureau. More information about the migration process can be found at https://ucmove.campaign.gov.uk.
You can also call the Universal Credit Migration Notice helpline on 0800 144 8 444.
