Gateway Housing Association has become one of the first Housing Associations in London to be awarded the Mayor of London’s Good Work Standard attaining the highest ‘Excellence’ level.

The Good Work Standard sets the benchmark for the best employment standards and helps employers contribute to a fairer and more inclusive London economy. This means the economy works for all and more Londoners can access good jobs, in workplaces that support their health and wellbeing.

The standard has been developed in collaboration with London employers, professional bodies and experts and was launched by the Mayor of London in July 2019. It’s organised into four key pillars: fair pay and conditions, workplace wellbeing, skills and progression, and diversity and recruitment.

Commenting on the Mayor’s decision to award Gateway Housing Association the Good Work Standard Kate Dodsworth, Chief Executive said: “We’re proud to be accredited the Mayor’s Good Work Standard. This highlights our commitment to being an equal, inclusive, and diverse employer. We want to attract the very best people and develop amazing talent. We know we have something unique to offer and this accreditation is a testament to this.”

The judging panel was impressed with our commitment to creating and promoting an equal, diverse, and inclusive work environment, where everyone can feel comfortable to be themselves. Our Diversity and Inclusion staff group ‘Gateway Together’ actively promotes awareness events and creates opportunities for staff to learn, embrace and reflect.

We demonstrated our commitment to providing staff the opportunity to develop their careers, knowledge and skills, through comprehensive courses, professional qualifications and accreditation.

The judges were equally impressed with our Support to Employment Programme (STEP), which supports residents and locals alike by giving people the tools they need to secure training or lasting employment. This could be anything from placements and apprenticeships to CV writing workshops and interview preparation.

Trevor West, Chair of Governance and People Committee, Gateway Housing Association said: “This is fantastic news and we’re delighted to be recognised by the London Mayor’s Good Work Standard. This accreditation demonstrates that at Gateway we’re creating a dynamic culture in order to deliver great services to residents.”
