Your service charge explained

A service charge is the money tenants, homeowners and shared owners pay for the cost of services and repairs to shared parts of their building.

For example, if you live in a block of flats with a communal area, the cost of maintaining that communal area is covered by a service charge because it is available to all residents.

Service charges also apply to communal areas outside of your building, such as gardens and playgrounds.
