Sheltered housing
Gateway is proud to be the largest provider of sheltered housing for older people in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
Sheltered housing helps remove the feeling of isolation and loneliness that many people experience as they become older.
We offer a variety of well-maintained, comfortable flats, each with their own front door, that you can call home.
Our schemes provide a secure environment for you to have privacy in your home, as well as the ability to socialise with your neighbours during organised events and activities.
Sheltered housing is designed for people who are over 60 years old.
We have 14 sheltered housing schemes in different sizes and locations, including two schemes for Asian and Somali Elders aged 55 or over.
Each sheltered scheme is managed by a scheme coordinator, (overseeing two schemes) between 9am and 5pm.
They will be available to return in an emergency to return if needed.
The scheme coordinator is responsible for:
- Health and Safety checks
- Fire safety checks
- Security of the building
- Making referrals to and liaising with other agencies as required
- Ensuring that sheltered scheme residents have the services they need to live independently
Our flats have mostly one and sometimes two bedrooms, equipped with a telecare emergency alarm system.
This alarm service links to the scheme coordinator, during weekday office hours, and a 24-hour control centre, when the coordinator is unavailable like nights and weekends.
We are committed to developing and improving our sheltered properties.
We are currently re-developing one site with two more to follow.
